SUSTAINABILITY overview
In order to address the major sustainable issues the world is faced with every day, the City of St. Louis developed its first sustainability plan led by Catherine Werner. The Sustainability Mission Statement is: “The City of St. Louis harnesses the strength and spirit of its diverse community to create an economically, socially, and ecologically vibrant City for present and future generations—one the dynamically serves those who live, work, and play in the City’s rich and celebrated historic landscape.” The city created a Sustainability Plan as a living document that can evolve over time, reflect the needs and characteristics of the City, utilize economic, social, and environmental outcomes, efficiently use the city’s resources to promote sustainability, put sustainable development on the top of the list in City departments, encourage residents to practice sustainable techniques, and provide business and individuals with a guide in how to integrate sustainable design and funding to improve the city.
